Re-Opening Update

As you know, at the CVESD board meeting last week our school board voted to authorize the preparation phase for hybrid instruction to facilitate students’ return. A key condition for re-opening is that the County return to the Red Tier. The County is currently in the most restrictive Purple Tier, however, transmission rates have been trending toward the Red Tier. We are currently in the process of creating our in person and distance learning rosters and determining teacher assignments. Rosters are being created based on the preferences you submitted or communicated to us for either in person or distance learning. If you have changed your mind since you took the survey and have not notified us of that change, please contact the school office as soon as possible.

Our hybrid schedule, will be 8:45 to 11:30 M-TH or 12:30-3:15 M-TH with all Distance Learning on Friday. It is important to note that although we will do our best to accommodate your preference, families who select in person (hybrid) might not get their choice of AM. If your child is staying in the Distance Learning format, their schedule will remain fairly consistent.

Kindergarten & New Student Enrollment for the 2021-22 School Year

The 2021-22 kindergarten and new student registration start date is March 15, 2021. The registration process will be completed online this year. Additional information regarding registration can be found on the CVESD website (cvesd.org).

Leader in Me

This week we will continue to engage students in conversation and reflection around a few guiding questions. These questions were chosen to allow students to deepen their understanding of the habits by reflect on ways they have used and can use the habits in their lives.

  1. What’s the most difficult thing you’ve ever done?
  • What habit(s) helped you accomplish that? Explain.
  1. What is one thing you have learned in life that you feel will be most useful as you grow older?
  • How will this help you in the future? Explain.
  1. What is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you?
  • How did it make you feel?
  • What impact did this statement have on you? Why?
  • Challenge: pay it forward. Discuss what this means and what students can do.

Read Across America

Read Across America focuses the country’s attention on how important it is to encourage children to read and celebrates Dr. Seuss’ birthday and his unique style of writing.

In celebration of Read Across America, on Friday, March 5 we will have a Favorite Character Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to attend distance learning dressed as their favorite character from a book.

To coincide with Read Across America, we encourage you to try out these special reading activities at home this week:

Skype Night: Skype or FaceTime with a family member and read a book aloud to them.

Read to a Pet/Stuffed Friend: Sit down with a pet or a stuffed friend and read aloud.

Silent Reading Fort: Build a silent reading pillow fort and read to yourself in it.

Draw a picture of what you read.

Act it out!: Read a book as a family and then act it out together.
