Clear View Weekly News – May 25 – 29

Hello Voyagers,

Thank you to everyone who came out to Clear View on Friday to return library books. It was so nice to see familiar faces and we were able to collect nearly 200 books. We will continue to collect library books during this week during our student belonging distribution. There is more information about this below.

We look forward to seeing many families this week!

Memorial Day

Monday, May 25th is Memorial Day. In recognition of this holiday, we will not have Distance Learning on Monday.  Instead, we would love for you to take this opportunity to honor and remember the men and women who have lost their lives while serving in the US military.

Distribution of Student Materials and Belongings

Last week our teachers worked hard to gather materials and personal items students left behind at school. This week we will distribute the bags of student belongings that teachers have prepared. Please review the schedule below and try your best to come on your scheduled day to help us prevent overcrowding. The distribution will take place in the pick up/drop off loop in front of the school. Please note that you must wear a mask and stay in your vehicle during the process.

Distribution Schedule:

Tuesday, May 26 (11:00 AM – 2:00 PM) – Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st Grade
Wednesday, May 27 (11:00 AM – 2:00 PM) – TK, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade
Thursday, May 28 (11:00 AM – 2:00 PM) – 4th Grade, 5th Grade, 6th Grade
Please take note of the following:
*If you have multiple students at Clear View you can come to one of the corresponding distribution days and pick up the belongings for all of your kids.
*We will also be collecting library books; please return any library books that you have at home.

Leader in Me

Parent Survey

Clear View is conducting a survey to learn more about our implementation of Leader in Me. The survey will help us identify the key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. The survey data will also help us track the impacts of the Leader in Me process and implement key practices more fully. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school, we are asking all staff members, parents/guardians, and students in grades 4-6 to participate. Below is additional information about the process and content of the surveys.
Parent Participation: If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete a survey (without sharing your name or other identifying information) that will be available through the link below. The link will remain open through June 5. The survey is completely voluntary, but we do hope to get feedback from one member of every household. The parent/guardian survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your child and about his or her experience in our school. If you have more than one child attending the school, you will be asked to think about the oldest child’s experiences as you answer questions related to his or her growth.

This Week’s Focus

This week we will be focusing on Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have – you. It is the process of continuously seeking to improve and renew the four areas of your life: heart, mind, body, and spirit. Dr. Stephen R. Covey said, “We must never be too busy sawing that we forget to sharpen the saw.”

At home, spend some time talking ways you can intentionally sharpen the saw. Here are some examples:

  • Heart: make social and meaningful connections with others
  • Mind: read, write, study, learn new things
  • Body: exercise, eat well, rest
  • Spirit: spend time in nature, service, inspirational literature, music, art

Here are a few books that go along with this habit. Enjoy!

Clear View Weekly News – May 18 – 22

Hello Voyager Families,

We hope that you and your families are safe and doing well. Please take a few moments to read the following information about Clear View. Have a wonderful week!

Returning Library Books

On Friday, May 22 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM we will be in front of the school to collect library books. If you currently have any library books at home, please help us by returning your child’s library books on Friday. We are also in the process of collecting and checking-in library books that were left in the classrooms at school.

Leader in Me

This week we will be focusing on Habit 6: Synergize. Synergy is the idea that two minds are better than one. According to Dr. Stephen Covey, “Synergy is better than my way or your way. It’s our way.” Synergy requires us to have an open mind, cooperate with others, and work as a team. It is a process that enables us to generate ideas and/or accomplish results that we would not be able to on our own. This year students have learned that students learned that synergy requires us to have an open mind, cooperate with others, and work as a team.

Think of 1 + 1= 3 (or more)

How is that possible? Well, 1 person + another person = 2 ideas + many, many more that neither of them would have thought of alone. It’s taking good ideas and making them better by working together. Synergize is a great tool for families.

Here are a few books that help you learn more about thinking Habit 6. We encourage you to listen to these stories and identify examples or non-examples of synergy/synergize. Have a discussion with your child about what we can glean from the story about this habit:

Student Belongings

This week our staff will be gathering student materials / personal belongings that were left behind at school. We will distribute the bags of student materials/belongings on May 26, 27, and 28. The schedule and specific procedure for picking up your child’s belongings will be shared later this week.

What is DASH?

DASH (Dynamic After School Hours) is a recreational program for children in grades 1st-6th funded by the Chula Vista Elementary School District and operated by the South Bay Family YMCA. DASH operates on all school days for 2 hours on regular days and 3 hours on minimum days for students enrolled.

What are the attendance requirements of DASH?

Students are required to attend/participate a minimum of 30 minutes, 3 days a week (regardless of holidays) to ensure the program is for those who truly need it. Time off request forms will be available for parents to complete and submit if there is a time period you need off for your student. Leader in Me

This week we will be focusing on Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. The premise of Habit 5 is that we have greater influence with others if we understand them first. This habit requires us to practice “empathic listening” (paying attention to another person with empathy). At home, spend some time talking about and working on the following skills:

  • Listening without interrupting
  • Attempting to understanding problems before attempting to solve them
  • When listening, trying to see things from the other person’s point of view, not just your own

When we listen with the intent to understand others, rather than with the intent to reply, we begin true communication and relationship building. Seeking to understand takes kindness;  seeking to be understood takes courage. Effectiveness lies in balancing the two.

Here are a few books that help you learn more about thinking Habit 5. We encourage you to listen to these stories and identify examples or non-examples of seeking first to understand, then to be understood. Have a discussion with your child about what we can glean from the story about this habit:

Staff Appreciation Week

It is time to recognize and honor the Clear View teachers and staff for the amazing work they do for our students and families. Their hard word and dedication to students has been evident even more so as they have prepared for and transitioned into distance learning. Although we are unable to celebrate our staff in person, the Clear View PTA has helped organize a way for our school community to virtually recognize and celebrate our teachers and staff. I encourage you to participate – a little appreciation goes a long way!

Leader in Me

This week we will be focusing on Habit #4: Think Win-Win. Think WIN-WIN means everyone can win.  Instead of thinking about YOU and ME, win-win thinks about BOTH OF US, finding solutions that will benefit everyone involved. This habit is about working together with others in order to achieve the highest results possible. It’s about embracing a mindset that focuses on cooperation, not competition. According to Dr. Covey, it is essential to think win-win in order to manage our relationships with others effectively.

HOW CAN I THINK WIN-WIN IN MY LIFE?

  • Be Cooperative – Have an open-minded attitude instead of a “my way or the highway” outlook.
  • Be Considerate – Think about what other people want, not just what you want.
  • Be a Good Problem Solver – Find ways to make both sides happy without having to compromise.

Here are a few books that help you learn more about thinking win-win. We encourage you to listen to these stories and identify examples or non-examples of thinking win-win. Have a discussion with your child about what we can glean from the story about thinking win-win:
