Clear View News – October 26 – 30

Dear Clear View Families,

This week we will participate in a nationwide campaign entitled Red Ribbon Week. Our goal is to proactively create student awareness pertaining to problems related to the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.

DID YOU KNOW?

Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.

Red Ribbon Week®, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is our opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started. This year’s theme is Be Happy. Be Brave. Be Drug Free.™

I invite everyone to participate in our Red Ribbon Spirit Week, where you can actively engage in a series of the fun, thematic days!

Monday: Team Up Against Drugs – wear your favorite team jersey
Tuesday: Turn Your Backs on Drugs – wear your clothes backwards
Wednesday: The Power to Stay Drug Free – wear a superhero shirt
Thursday: Head to Toe Drug Free – crazy hair and sock day
Friday: Red-E to Make a Difference – wear all red
*We would love to document and Tweet our participation in Red Ribbon Week. Please email any pictures of your child’s participation in our spirit week you are willing to share to ray.devore@cvesd.org

Leader in Me

This week we will continue to focus on Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. Begin with the End in Mind means to think about how you would like something to turn out before getting started.

Someone who thinks with the end in mind says, “I plan ahead and set goals.”, “I do things that have meaning and make a difference; I am an important part of my classroom.”, I can make a difference and contribute to the vision and goals of my school and in my classroom.”, “I look for ways to be a good citizen.”.

The link below provides you with a few activities your family can participate in to further understand and live out Habit 2:

Leader in Me

For the next two weeks we will focus on Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. This habit is based on imagination – the ability to envision in your mind what you cannot see at the present with your eyes. Begin with the End in Mind teaches us to begin each day, task, or project with a clear vision of our desired direction and destination, and then continue by flexing our proactive muscles to make things happen.

This week, take some time to talk to your child at home about Habit #2. Some points of conversation related to beginning with the end in mind include:

  • What your child hopes to become
  • What long term and short term goals you child has
  • Talents your child wants to develop
  • The influence your child would like to have on others (i.e. family, friends, classmates)
  • What values matter most to you?

Parent Teacher Conferences

We will continue conferences this week through Thursday, October 22. To allow time for teachers to conferences with parents, teachers will provide students with 2 hours of synchronous instruction during this window and the remainder of the instructional minutes for students will be filled with independent (asynchronous) work. The school day during conferences will be similar to the schedule teachers followed the first week of school.  Please ensure you sign up for a conference and take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss how we can all work together to support your child.

Reopening Update

Although the district’s goal of a phased return to in-person instruction was proposed for October 26, 2020, CVESD will take extra precautions and postpone the reopening because COVID-19 transmission rates in our boundaries are still too high. CVESD remains committed to a safe return when the data in our boundary area supports resuming at least a hybrid form of in-person instruction. In the meantime, CVESD will continue working with stakeholders to ensure a safe reopening at a future date.

Commitment Form

The Commitment Form you have been asked to complete to specify whether you would like your child(ren) to return for in-person instruction or continue with Distance Learning is still live and I am asking that you still respond to it (linked below). Although the results of this Commitment Form will no longer be used as a firm commitment, the data will provide us with helpful information as we plan for reopening. An official Commitment Form will be sent out once we have more information about when we will return and what the hybrid model will look like.

We understand that you may have questions about the proposed school openings and the commitment form (linked above) that we are asking all families to complete. Please use the link below to review the answers to frequently asked questions:

Leader in Me

This week students will continue to learn about Habit 1: Be Proactive. This habit teaches us that we are responsible for ourselves and reminds us that we are “response-able”. We choose our behavior and our mindset. We choose our actions and moods. We can choose to have a “can do” attitude.

This week, take some time to talk to your child about the highly effective practices related to Habit #1. They include:

  • Pause and respond based on principles and desired results
  • Use proactive language – “I can.” “I’m sorry.” “I choose to ___.” “I will get this done.” “There must be something we can do.”
  • Focus on your circle of influence  – this circle includes those things you can affect directly
  • Become a transition person – a highly proactive person can stop the transmission of negative patterns by modeling positive behavior and passing on effective habits that strengthen and build others in  positive ways
